Ribh's D'Coopage

Awww thanks for asking! It is quite a roller-coaster. And since you asked I will give you the update!

Bernadette had the leg paralysis which required massive amounts of vitamin B2 and some complicated leg splinting to reverse. Whenever I backed off the vitamin supplement one or other leg would go lame. I nearly gave up a couple of times but was inspired by your experience with Sif (?), and by Bernadette herself who is the commander of the little Hooligans tribe and had no intention of giving up. She is doing fantastically well - she is large and in charge and seems to relish the working of her legs by doing little dances and jumping up to impossible places!

Minnie had diarrhea and was doing the death warmed up stance - all hunched up and miserable. Vet eventually found roundworms and coccidiae - so I treated both. Minnie immediately got an obstructed crop which then got yeast infection (she was burping like a brewery). I treated with miconazole and lots of massage and coconut oil. She too is now doing great (though she still has diarrhea!).

Bella is one of the new Hooligans and is a medical mystery. She is quite poorly and neither the vet nor I can figure it out. She is gaping and coughing/sneezing (but not often) and she has gone off her food. I am considering treatment without a diagnosis which I don't love to do but it is getting a bit dire. I am also considering tube feeding which I vowed never to do but she is young so I don't want her to starve to death. Right now I am giving her liquid with a dropper and she will eat scratch but not anything else.

And because I have typed such a long answer to what was possibly just a casual enquiry, I will share a picture of each so you know who I am talking about.

Thank you so much for the detailed answer! :hugs Minnie I had caught up with but I am pleased to hear Bernadette is doing so much better. I'm afraid it is always a bit of a roller coaster with chickens. :( I'd only heard Bella was doing poorly but no updates. I can't think what might be up with her but I think I'd be tempted to start her on an all purpose antibiotic & see how you go. Pleased it's not gapeworm though! It's rare so I would be surprised it that became the diagnosis. I hope she picks up quickly. Is it possible she might be allergic to something in her environment? Too much bedding dust or pollen or something? I know both Luna & Beatha get a dose of the sneezes if I leave it too long to change the bedding ~ which has been happening a bit due to the huge amounts of rain we've had.

I thought about allergy too, but she stopped eating which suggests something nastier going on.
And I can’t leave you thinking everything is doom and gloom at the Chicken Palace. So here is Lulu my strange alien chicken and Diana who picked a sunbathing spot right by the grass she wanted to taste and managed to multi-task.

They can be in the worst spot. I think it was my daughter's Camaro where you had rotate the engine to get it out. I hope it is easy to get at and change.
Get a Toyota hybrid, no starter ;)
Well it DOES kinda have one, the big electric motor starts the gas engine through the transmission when needed.

Caturday! This is an older picture of Rascal. One way to know is she has a collar on. She figured out how to get it off fairly quickly ... and apparently taught the other cats. Thus this was probably about 10 years ago
