Ribh's D'Coopage

That all looks so AMAZING!! You are making my visit Australia itch harder and harder to scratch...
It really is a beautiful country. I loved Norway but our climate is definitely better.

My grandfather was a Geologist, so he traveled quite a bit. He loved Iceland and my grandmother loved Nova Scotia.

I personally want to go to Australia (of course) and Ireland or South Wales. My ancestors immigrated from South Wales. The family rumor is that we are related to royalty there, but were kicked out of the country for some reason. It sure makes me wish I had listen to my grandparents more as a young adult.

My brother and his wife spent 4.5 years in Germany. They traveled through much of the county there. He even played on a minor league hockey team there.

Iceland looks amazing ~ & from a geologists POV would be incredible. I watch their movies just so I can enjoy the landscape. :)

South Wales is gorgeous. I loved all the old Celtic Kingdoms. The oldest history is fascinating & everyone was royal! lol The Celts were good that way.;)

Germany ~ less fussed about. I loved how clean everywhere was but I didn't like how fussy & particular they were about things & the people, particularly in the north, were quite rude. The French were pretty bad too ~ until they realised we were Australian, not English, & were prepared to attempt to communicate in French. Then they loved us.:lau

I love family histories. My mum came from England in the 50s. Dad's dad was from Sweden. Dad's mum's dad was also Swedish. Dad's mum's mum had a mother from Scotland called Granny Smith but I don't know anything about Granny Smith's husband. So when people tell me "go back where you came from" I give it genuine consideration: hmmm, England, Scotland Sweden? Uhhh definitely Sweden. Not that people say that to me very often, only when my non-compliance with the more performed Australian values and social norms is observed, like Aussie Aussie Aussie ... yeh I don't do that ... Go back where you came from bitch... Thinking: For crying out loud, why are people so intolerant

I find history gives me about zero tolerance for certain things ~ we're Scots so we lost our land, our culture, our language, our music, our dress & the right to bear arms & fight for our country to the English. To say nothing of Longshanks & his policy of state sanctioned rape to *breed 'em out*. Ugh. And no~one is going to give anything back so can we all just move forward & try not to repeat the mistakes of the past! Because no~one alive today is responsible for any of it.

Jeannie, best complement I ever got in Germany was the old guy at the bar who claimed I wasn't an American who works in Saudi but just a poorly educated German whose grammar sucks.

MJ, My Aussie speak is pretty good but I totally missed that one.

Yes! That's why truthful reporting of history is so important. Those truth commissions in South Africa (i think that's where they were held) were for not repeating the past, for recording historical wrongs with accuracy, and for listening to and officially acknowledging victims' stories. Such an awesome social and judicial innonvation that healed wounds and signposted the future.

I really need to visit Scotland. My grandmother was Scotch English mix along with some Cherokee mixed in (her grandmother was 100% Cherokee). My Grandfather was entirely English background. His ancestors snuck into the states and were disinherited for marrying heathens.

lol That's funny!
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi ~ international sports chant.;) 'Cause most of us are descended from Irish yobs ~ & I can say that because all a Scotman is is an Irishman who immigrated.:gig
