Hehe Oracle is a system for managing lots and lots of data. It supports us in organising data so that we can more reliably extract information from it. And reliable information is the cornerstone of decision making. @rjohns would know more than I because it's been years since I last used Oracle.

Oracle is the go to database for large enterprise operations. Back in the 93-95 time frame, my Aus friends and I were working a pretty significant Oracle job for the Saudi Air Force. I stayed with it and found myself within a class or two of becoming an Oracle Master (something I wish I had finished). Since I've been with this company, I've had to rely on folks in finance to run my reports. Well this month, we changed people and reporting tools. So what we got was pretty much a worthless report (think of it as the corporate bank statement and it's our job to balance the check book). I've just been granted access to the Oracle Business Intelligence tool which gives me the capability of running my own reports. The challenge is to find the right data elements (column headings) to match what we're accustomed to working with. The process is to create a report, run it and compare it to a known good report. And keep doing it until everything matches. Given our bank statement for last month had 150,000 entries its not a trivial exercise. Good news is I'm getting closer and closer to solving it.
