Ribh's D'Coopage

Not yet, but it’s on my to do list!

So after my cockerel games morning I took Puffy and Bossy (I renamed B****y) out of the tractor with Chickie Hawk, and went down to rescue the “outside chickens” before they become “inside chickens” and get all sorts of heath problems. Turns out chicken integration is usually tougher than my last one.

Chickie Hawk got some new digs this afternoon, because his new ladies aren’t so lady like after all. The feathers were flying and they looked fit to kill him... so the little rehab coop won’t be done until tomorrow... oh and apparently Bossy misses him, she kept calling to him from the barn which was making him go totally nuts after I took them out. Turns out I can bang together an integration box in about an hour by myself... good to know.

Oh. My. Still, probably good for Chickie Hawk to meet his match. Did you put him back with his Bossy?

No, I need to try to drain her and Puffy’s bellies because they have ascites. And it wouldn’t be manageable with him there for their recovery if it is successful. So he gets 7 new GF’s that I thought would squat for him. They squat as soon as they see a human near them. Oy, all my chickens are confused, just like teenagers I suppose. Granted these girls are only 9 months older than him... Puffy and Bossy are about 2 or 3 years old

 Glad I'm not the only one with nutty animals.

Speaking of nutty animals... our dogs have collars for the underground electric fence so they have access to the front of the house as well as the back... anyway, my realtor always leaves little goodie bags fill with treats.. cookies.. candles.. prints of paintings her late mother painted.. whatnot.. well she left one today and the dog got to it and ate ALL of it :rant:mad::rant:mad::rant:mad:... I could kill a dog!!! They drive me nuts!!! :duc That’s the second package he “received” for me! The last one.. my son has his packages sent here.. well, brand new clothes spread across lawn:barnie
I AM GETTING A GATE!!!!

This morning was all about getting our run extension up. Not an onerous task given 1/2 a dozen star pickets & a roll of wire netting & my big girls were sooo happy. Not only was *their* coop available to them again, so was the strangler fig. I keep it pruned low because they really are monstrosities if let go, but my girls adore getting under it & scabbling around in the dirt. It left the new girls with the new run all to themselves & they have made full use of it, even when the rain came in. They just got in the sand pit which is sheltered by the coop & enjoyed the whole thing. Everyone can still see each other but can't invade each other's space. It's a pity the small coop is starting to fall apart.

And Pebbles has started laying. Such a nice little bantam egg in the box this morning! Which explains why the big girls have been more accepting of her than the others. The hens always seem to know. :)

She's settling in well and laid an egg yesterday. Still separated from the other two but only by aviary wire. Janet faced up to her a bit today, so did Mary. I tjink Sandy might have mites, so I'll deal with that asap.

It's a sad day though because my old cat, Charly, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic lymphoma. So she was put to sleep an hour ago. I've just finished laying her to rest near the woodshed. It's a bit heartbreaking.
