Ribh's D'Coopage

Hello everyone :)
I've been a little busy with work, so haven't been logging in. I love all the new photos! @Aussie-Chookmum where did you get your easter egger? Sorry to read about the fox @rjohns39 I know the feeling. A fox took my first three chickens 18 months ago.

For those of you interested, last night I put Sandy into the big coop to sleep with the other two. It went well, except she decided to sleep on the ground :idunno Unfortunately it was already dark when I got home a couple of hours ago, so I didn't disturb her, but I'll put her into the big coop again tomorrow night.

Actually that's a good time to gently lift Sandy onto the roost with the other girls. Everyone's too sleepy to fuss.

Morning Jeannie :frow yup it's afternoon here. Not hatching yet. Soon, I'll be selling hatching eggs and day old chicks.
Wow. Sounds like you have a fairly big set up. Such a different mindset, methinks, to us lowly backyard sorts. :D

Before the fox, I had nearly 200. Now i'm down to 40 layers, 15 ducks and 13 turkeys. The vet will be here tomorrow to test the flock. I can't really brood any real numbers until I get the pigs out of the barn. The chicks in highest demand are Barred Hollands and those girls are giving me about 9 eggs a day. So I'm learning how to ship eggs and birds. Selling live birds or hatching eggs has a much better return than eating eggs.

No wonder you want to get rid of that fox! :( Bummer. That's a huge loss. Such a different climate to ours too. My mind sort of boggles @ keeping pigs in a barn ~ but then not so many places in Oz snow & our neck of the woods most people are still wandering round in Ts & shorts during the day, & we're only a month off winter.
