Ribh's D'Coopage

Well, everyone, I am down to 10 chooks. Namaste passed last night. Not surprising, she has not been getting worse, but not better either, but she seemed herself last night when I tucked everyone up, scoffing sardines & fighting for her share of the tucker. Sad ~ but not unexpected. No way to find out what was going on either. She'd been wormed & all the regular things checked for & apart from being a little lethargic [which I put down to her molt] & being underweight was actively out & foraging every day.

I let the girls out so I could clean the coop only my 3 worst offenders refused to stay where they belong so now everyone is penned again. The upside is I now have room for a pair of blue layers. *sigh* I hate losing birds! :(

I am so sorry for your loss. It can be so hard. She had a great live with you. :hugs

I know she did. She was enjoying each day right up to the end. I've had trouble with the Aussies so probably won't get them again. Am wondering if this particular strain had a genetic fault as I have lost both with similar symptoms but as no~one else in the flock is affected it can't be disease. My Rocks, from same breeder & location, are big, healthy girls & going great guns!

Oh no! I'm so sorry Ribh :hugs You did everything right and she hadn't been herself for a long time.
That's true. I did everything I know to do but I probably missed something because I don't know all that much but with no vet [let alone an avian vet!] it's a bit hit & miss when something goes wrong. That's 3 out of 5 of my original birds gone now. DH lost a broody while I was away last summer.
