Ribh's D'Coopage

So sorry for your loss, somewhat expected or not, it is still always hard to lose birds

Thanks, Kris. The Australorps were the really calm, steadying influence in the flock. The BRs aren't bad but we will see how we do without my black girls. The majority of the flock are now more docile, easily intimidated breeds & already the dynamics have changed.

I literally sat down with the yearling cattle for about an hour, cuddling them, and it really helped.
I have a nutter of a cat who climbs into my arms & cuddles me to sleep. It really helped ~ though he seems to think I need washing as well!:lau

I want that cat :love:love

8C this morning. Feels like 3C ~ & i believe it. The tips of my fingers are numb with cold. Wind W/SW, so nobody is happy. The other cat has been in my lap, up under my chin, for the last hour & while the girls are up they were cold & very happy to see some extra tucker come their way!

Ribh that's so sweet unless he does that 24/7
Thankfully, no. His brother, who is not a relaxed or relaxing sort of cat @ all, has insisted on being in my lap this morning & he is the one who wants to be in my lap @ meal times. He's determined & I'm not having it . Now he is hunkered down & purring up a storm, & I'm warming up nicely, thank you. :)

@Aussie-Chookmum: Pebbles, my sole remaining Australorp. She is a blue bantam. Very feisty, a great layer, really friendly. I think Australorps are incredibly pretty birds: shape, colours & those big dark eyes@

Lottie, my Wyandotte bantam. She's just the sweetest girl, & only the size of a large teacup. She does well but will probably be happier now there are fewer domineering birds in the flock. She even lays a good sized egg fairly regularly.

Good morning all!

All of you folks with pretty and fancy mixed flocks sometimes makes me regret my decision to keep birds that are critically endangered or threatened. They can be rather boring and the egg basket isn't exciting either. I need to setup a pen for non-endangered eye candy.

Conservancy is important @rjohns39 and I'm grateful you're doing it. Think of what you're providing for future generations! Not to mention the respect you're showing for the efforts made by previous generations.

Yesterday, there was another really rough patch with Andrew’s family, which threw me into a full blown panic/anxiety attack. I literally sat down with the yearling cattle for about an hour, cuddling them, and it really helped.

Oh no! Sorry to hear it, I was hoping things had worked out. It's such a high-stakes situation. They need to have a say because they've known the farm since childhood and you need a say because it's your place of work and, consistent with your values and principles, you've put such a lot of love and effort into it. I see the emotional complexity of it all. And the business complexity too.

Mary (the Australorp at my place) is gorgeous. Huge dark eyes, tall, cascading tail, huge fluffy butt, slate grey legs, green iridescence, and soft honking noises. Because she's so pretty, when she runs across the yard it's an extremely slapstick performance and it cracks me up every time! She's a character too, always chasing the wildbirds which adds even more slapstick to my day. But she was vicious once when Sandy arrived. To my best knowledge, she's been OK since.

Lottie!!!! There she is :love
