Ribh's D'Coopage

Have fun Jeannie, I'm sure you'll make a good choice when the time comes.
I have a much better idea now of what I want & like in chickens. While I want eggs they are not my only consideration. If I had the space I would totally free range Campines ~ but I don't so their numbers need to stay small to keep them happy & I need to consider other breeds.

After several candling attempts that didn’t show much promise I cracked them open and they were infertile. Talked with the husband of the other farmer, and he thinks they were both female geese, wish I’d known that at the beginning as I could have saved quite a few near sleepless nights! Sadly, two weeks ago they lost both their geese to a mink, the very same night Andrew dropped off their laying chickens. They were away for the night and their geese free range, so I’m just happy Andrew got the birds completely secured in the coop.

Be glad you don’t have weasels down there! We’re talking about a 1-2lb little creature that can fit through a gap about an inch or two wide and slaughter two giant guard geese with ease. These geese were bigger than most turkeys. Vicious nasty little things!

Weasels are awful. I think I told my weasel story on Fluffy Butt Acres. I'll have to make sure. They are bad.
Gives me me the shivers.

Just gave the chooks a little pasta carbonara, two pieces of penne each. They went crackerchook for it! Gone in moments. Lots of scurrying off with the stash.
:lau:lau:lau You'd think they'd know better than to advertise they've got goodies!

I'm also negotiating with my girl to do another POL run to replace the girls we lost & maybe another couple as well...:hmm I have succumbed to chicken math. I may have to wait. I want a friend for Lottie & I have fallen in love with Frizzles plus if silver Campines are on offer...:love We shall see.

I look forward to seeing your new girls!

Speaking of your girls, I have Patricia, Nugget, Suyin, Pebbles and Lottie in my Ribh rogue's gallery. Will you be putting up more "mug shots" of the rest of the flock for us to admire? :fl

Thank you @Ribh !

Edwina (Olive Egger 20.5 weeks) is showing signs of coming in to lay, but I'm really hanging out for Alice's eggs (Aracauna). They are meant to be blue. Hopefully I'll have photos of coloured eggs to share in the next few weeks! :fl:fl
