Ribh's D'Coopage

I put a whole zucchini in the run the other day, they all ran back into the coop, including my head rooster. Finally my lead hen came out and looked at it sideways a few times until see finally pecked it. Once she realized is was food the whole flock came running. :th

Looks like a snake...the internet is full of cats freaking out over zucchinis or cucumbers but the reason is they look like snakes. Your birds were smart. They ran from a potential threat. Half of mine are totally oblivious & the other half scream defiance because they're a big tough chicken. *sigh* I'm the only one who ever bothers about a hawk overhead! No real threats & mine are so not predator savvy.

I was totally thinking that too! The videos of poor cats being ambushed by cucumbers planted by their humans while they are sleeping or eating... we could try the same with chickens vs zucchini, maybe it will go viral and we will all have enough vacation cash to have a meetup somewhere nice and sub-tropical, maybe with awesome views and adorable chickens? ;)

I all for it!!

This morning I gave them my chicken wing left overs. They we having a ball! I find it morbidly hilarious when my chickens run around with pieces of chicken in their beaks!

Perhaps they feel super safe behind the perimeter...?

I am still trying to get my head around the whole raccoon thing. I read Rascal with YD as a set book [wonderful book!] & have this soft spot for raccoons because of it. So glad we don't have rabies as well.

I also have quite the soft spot for them, being city folk and all! (The Raccoons was a Canadian cartoon I watched in the mid 80’s growing up) I had a half blind big male raccoon I was feeding back in our city house for a while. I named him Odin because he was missing an eye. I met him after my first real fight with Andrew. At about 1:30am I retreated to the yard fuming and crying with a scotch and some cigarettes, and sat in one of those folding camp chairs. There was a local semi-feral cat I’d petting and feeding, so when something furry brushed my leg I reached down for a scritch. I didn’t find the cat. I fed him by hand every few nights for several months before he was gone one day, most likely as prey to the coyotes. My uncle also had a pet Raccoon “Rocky” he caught and (mostly) tamed.

Now that I have chickens and six raccoons hanging out right next to them I’m a little less kindly disposed to them though!

I completely get it. I like foxes but I don't want them hanging round my chickens!

If they laid bigger eggs I'd have all bantams; bantams & Campines...:gigThey are such lovely, lovely girls!
Oh gosh yes! I’m in love with my darling little Cochins! The sweetest cutest lil things!! And you should hear them speak... berrrrp, berrrp, berrrp... :love

Btw, so glad you cleared up for me the pronunciation of Ha’Penny.... I would say... Ha.... Penny :gig... I never understand that name :D
It's the abbreviation of half a penny. I remember the old imperial. The metrics nowhere near as exciting ~ or inventive. :D
