Ribh's D'Coopage

Ok. @BY Bob I'm taking a moment to make this face

And now, like an Aussie may I say, WTF to your boss who disrupted your holiday for a meeting you didn't need to be at (I can't facepalm hard enough for that lil chestnut) and also to the "airline" that gave you 5x more time in the airport than in the air (can we make that a performance indicator, plz).

I'm sorry your one week of family holiday was trashed by unethical decision makers.

Ditto! How do you read my mind MJ?

I don't know much about budgies. I figure, like chooks, drafts would be more of a killer than actual cold but there aren't that many places here where we get snow & extreme cold but sudden climate changes aren't good. @MaryJanet @Aussie-Chookmum ???

Yeah, I have never had birds (other than chickens). I would have to google it to see what they endure in their natural habitat. Open plains and scrub isn't it? Or is that finches?
See? I'm useless with budgies

Can you bring them inside for the winter @WhoDatChick ? Teach them to line up on your shoulders as if you were a clothesline? ;):p

I admit to having a super soft spot for this beauty.
She was the quietest, most subdued little chicken @ the farm but we soon discovered she had loads of personality. From the moment she was released from her crate she rushed around like a mad woman chest bumping everyone & asserting her dominance. From the get go she was a top order chook & what's more she laid regularly a good sized egg.

When I dodged the raindrops this morning she was downstairs with everyone vying for her share of the treat.

We got a break in the weather about mid~day & Pebbles was in the nesting box on top of @ least 4 eggs. I gently removed them from under her but she wasn't a hen to fuss & I gave her a quick cuddle before leaving her to get on with her business.

The weather closed in again & I didn't get another chance to check the girls until feed time. I opened the gate to let the girls have a quick run while I filled the feeders. There was a mass surge @ the gate so I didn't immediately notice I was missing one.

Pebbles was propped against the side wall of the sand pit as if caught in the middle of her sand bath, quite serene but gone from us.

I am devastated. There was no sign of illness. Nothing to suggest she was unwell. Everything was as usual but now she is gone. Such a little chicken, such a big personality.

Oh no! What a horrible surprise for you Ribh. What on earth could have happened that fast? ( Rhetorical question. I don't expect an answer) All the hugs :hugs

Here is a photo to help lift the spirits of the Bobs who had such a rotten day.

It's what Alice, my fluffy headed girl, looks like in the rain. Hope it helps @rjohns39 and @BY Bob

Oh No! I am so sorry. I would be devastated. She was such a beautiful hen. At least it was quick for her and she was ding what she loved. I wish there was something else I could say to make it better. :hugs:hugs:hugs

Aaww, I am so very sorry! This shocks me to hear this.. :(

I thank you all for the advice... the heaters and heating pads sound great!
We don’t get to freezing temps often and when we do it is not for very long... couple hours here and there... I was thinking when it gets into the 40’s at night then I would roll the cage into the pump shed which stays quite warm and put a heat lamp... but I think I’m gonna get the heater or pad instead... don’t want the light burning out... from what MJ said.. I think they’ll be fine outdoors until then so long as I keep em covered... thanks so much to all my chicken friends :love :hugs
