Ribh's D'Coopage

Our overcast skies finally dropped a little rain this morning. I found all the girls huddled under the coop in their sand pit area, which is substantial but not meant for 9 chooks for prolonged periods ~ so I opened the gate.

Everyone rushed out, though if it continues to rain they will all cram under the small coop that was never meant to hold such big girls. There is plenty of space to choose from & @ least 3 dry areas out of the wet, but no, everyone has to be on top of each other.

Bob, I did notice one of my Campines eating the green sea grass this morning.
The other one apparently found a delightful bug. You can just see her hightailing it around the run perimeter as everyone realised what she had!

We have a few flock issues going on since Pebbles' demise, mainly feather pulling. I have identified the 3 main culprits ~ all known bully girls. Am hoping the flock is just a little stressed as the power shift reworks itself & it won't become a major issue. We have plans to extend the run & give the girls a little more room but are waiting on our lads being free as we can't do the work ourselves. It's too dangerous for our aged bones.

Beautiful pattern Jeannie, and the colours are looking gorgeous! Your daughter is our Prayers here as well, and hopefully the situation is resolved peacefully soon. It so sad that it is bad enough there to push people into such actions. :hugs

Your Campines are so entertaining, such characters. And your little “not a cat” looks so peaceful snuggled up with you. Lucky babe, but I suspect you’re right that her parents probably had a long night :p

KRIS! :hugs You are missed when you are MIA. Thank you. All my leftovers seem to be blending well But I will have some fudging to do on my edges. I have trouble keeping straight lines...:lau

Thank you, for remembering my daughter. The situation itself is not good but she is safe. Please remember the orphans. Some of the Homes are now struggling to get basic necessities. :(

I love my Campines!:love Unfortunately I think everyone else knows it & some jealousy is happening. They are just like toddlers sometimes! My least favourite era of child rearing. Unreasonable. Irrational. Illogical.:th

Babies that sleep are wonderful! :p This one always falls asleep on me. Her parents are not so lucky.

Morning everyone :frow so happy my day is over, but must survive the day after Halloween with the children :barnieon a candy high.

Oh gosh, yes!!! Until the last few years Halloween hasn't been a thing here ~ it's a fall festival after all, but there were hordes of kiddies on our streets last night & all I could think was the amount of sugar & who had to deal with them today! Yikes:eek:

We are off the beaten track so don't often get anyone trick or treating out our way but I'm not sure how to approach it. I loathe it's ugliness, it's celebration of the macabre, & it's pagan roots but no~one is going to listen to me on what they are actually celebrating.:lau

My area of history is Pre~Christian Celtic so the things I know...:gigso I just didn't answer the door. Besides my cats were freaking out & they were disturbing the chooks with their racket. Rude I call it. :(

We cope with the event here by sticking all the children and teens in the gym of our rec center. There’s hot dogs, a small bonfire (outside! because our volunteer fire department likes to burn stuff, and it seems to happen at all the fall events) fire extinguisher demonstrations and practice (practical considering how many of us heat with wood) and a big fireworks display (because they also like explosions). By keeping it at the rec center everyone’s pets/livestock stay safe and relaxed. The small people can work off some of the sugar, and no teenagers lose fingers to fireworks accidents... it’s a win-win. With only 15 or so kids on the whole island it’s manageable, and they get way too much candy and chocolate from the indulgent and mostly retired population. I loathed it in the city though, and wasn’t a huge fan of any fireworks heavy celebrations... they keep me up too late and upset my cats!

Sorry for being a little out of touch lately, I’ve been helping my mother with her pension application (2 years late, but they will give her 11 months retro on one at least, and she gets an increased amount for having delayed claiming it) and busy with winter preparations...

Big news... and I may as well post here firstly because we are all basically here too... Concrete is coming tomorrow! I’ll see if we can snag some pics while pouring, but might be too busy.

And I got another “first” egg. Chickie Hawk might not be a girl, or particularly easy to work with but he’s a keeper for sure! His daughter by a hyline red lady gave me this little beauty... my first Olive egg!

Both on the pour & the egg. :hugs

I understand you have been busy. No condemnation ~ just letting you know you've been missed.

Basically not a fan of anything that scares the animals... :( Plus one year YD & I came home to find our really elderly neighbour's lawn had been trashed. It was nearly midnight but we cleaned it up for her because she couldn't have. That's just mean.
