Beautiful!

My girls had quit, the big girls were molting and the littles decided to follow suit. Now Goldie (head hen) is finished with her molt and laying again, so the littles have started again! :ya

Howdy Y'all!!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. Things have been crazy lately. I saw a neurologist on Friday and they have a strong feeling that I likely have Multiple Sclerosis as well. I need to go for a MRI of the brain and neck. I also need an EEG to make sure I'm not having any seizures. I don't think that I am, but it is good to know for sure, as there are many types of seizures.

On the plus side my girls have started up again! View attachment 1961492

Last night for dinner, I made Chicken Fried Steak and needed eggs for my coating. They were so yellow it was truly amazing! The leftover egg was then scrambled and made a nice treat for everyone right before bed.

How do you get them to lay right now? Are they all done molting? What is your secret?

2 of the 3 big girls are done molting. The littles never really "molted" but they took a break too.

I don't think I'm doing anything special, but when they were molting I switched to meat bird feed for higher protein. I have since switched back to layer feed and cracked corn. I don't add extra light or anything.

In addition to the eggs, my 2 silkie hens are broody again. They are sharing a nest box and 4 eggs, so I'll see what happens. They have co-parented before, so I'll let them do it again, if any hatch.

Co parenting? Never heard of that before. Please share how it goes.

@Shadrach just had some of his girls co~parent ~in case you're interested in comparing notes.

@Ribh, you could always build a quick crate out of scrap timber and hardware cloth for Lavender if she persists... sort of like my “bad rooster box” I banged together for Chickie Hawk when his girlfriends decided it wasn’t love at first sight and “who does this little guy think he is?” It’s come in very handy for rooster catching/containment and segregating under the weather girls without removing them from the flock. Or look for a folding wire dog crate when you’re in town. It doesn’t have to be perfect or extremely durable, and luckily with your predator situation it could be quite un-secure. Hopefully with the cooler weather she gives up on her own. But who can tell what lurks in those little chicken minds?

Did you get a good solid rain/hail? How is the fire situation going down there? Sometimes here the rains can complicate wildfires because they are often accompanied by lightning and high winds.

Up here one fire started from a lightening strike. North & south of us suffered serious hail damage. Lots of hail was the size of tennis balls. Not the rain we were hoping for & badly need & it was followed by wind. It is cooler today but I have 2 family members on property facing different fires. Waiting to hear how they did last night. The NSW fire front is some 6000Ks long & most of it is still uncontained & burning out of control ~ so if you can spare that rain of yours...;) You may keep the white stuff.
