Mine as well. I know a bit about the breeds here, a bit about a few of the more unusual breeds, but apart from that, not only don't I know, I'm not really interested.
There are some traits that can be attributed to a particular breed but behavior which is what I'm most interested in, I believe is determined largely by treatment and conditions.

I can't keep up with how the Americans X breed everything. I know a little about the breeds I'm interested in. Some I can't get out here but I still like reading about them.

From what I've seen, your house is pretty cool. I love all the wood.

Im sure they will put it back together nicely for you. If it's time to catch crabs, you gotta do that first!

The next full moon should really bring the sandies on. We won't see much of either of them once that happens.

Yes. They have eased up a bit but when we built we couldn't have a composting toilet, grey water, solar...all things that have become more mainstream & now, of course, we can't afford them.

We are still fairly alternative in many ways. For example, we've kept the trees & ferns on the hill even though nearly every one tells us to remove them & *open up the view*. They're our rain & cyclone proofing & the proof is in the pudding. Next door removed everything to *landscape*. This morning all their soil is swimming in the bay... Which we told them would happen.... After such a long dry they now have a very real problem!

Get that here too. One asks why they are doing it and most don't even know why.
Here, you ask about anything to do with building regulations and you get a shrug and the comment, 'it's a mountain, nobody cares.'

If we'd been 10 years earlier we could have done what we liked as the islands weren't regulated @ all. Now we have a lot of retirees used to *services* And they don't understand managing your landscape. Our trees force the winds up & over the top of us & we have survived 3 cyclones because of them. The farmer down the road hurtled up to us during the eye passing over because her roof went but we have always been rock solid.

I finally got out to the girls with some warm oats. Everyone is sodden. The coop is sodden. Even the sandpit is waterlogged. They aren't used to this! And the temperature has plummeted to 22C.​

Because Lavender did a whole heap of feather plucking when she went broody. I had a lot of trouble with her & ended up with 3 birds missing a lot of feathers.

I wonder how you can best share your wisdom with the community. I suppose many of them are hostile to learning, but there might be a few who listen.

That "open up the view" suggestion is an odd one because it's already delightful.

I think it's odd too MJ. Some people don't like trees in their view it seems but if you wait eventually you look under the canopy. The next door lot on one side are incredibly weird. They throw money around but the end result just looks like an expensive mess & they seem to be jealous of stuff we do. They keep mentioning they want an elkhorn like mine ~ which took 30 years to grow!! They're not prepared to wait 30 years. They goggled when the sandstone went in but we are ex~Sydneysiders. Sandstone's in our blood. They got ducks because we had chickens & they wanted eggs. They got muscovies which are a meat bird & then complained when the duck molted & stopped laying. They talked about getting bees when we got our hive...took out all their bush then complained they had no birds visiting. I tried. I really did but some people just can't learn it seems.
