Ribh's D'Coopage

Very little has changed for us. We already work from home on~line, are semi~isolated, homeschooled, grow some of our own food. I don't get what some people out here are making all the fuss about. :idunno I know you, like us, are very self~sufficient in some ways but it's like in a generation people have forgotten how to get along without certain stuff. Boggles me mind, it does. Like seriously, people are fighting over toilet paper. Toilet paper!!! I'm not that old, but when I was a kid Brisbane suburbs still didn't have sewerage. It was a dunny down the back, squares of newspaper on a nail, & a bin of sawdust. I hope we grow some common sense soon!

Hoarding is antisocial. People who really need stuff, sick, elderly etc can't get any! Makes my blood boil. I've been giving dirty looks to youngish, helathy people who take more than their share. I figure if they're honest, they'll say something like, "it's ok I'm a carer" or whatever. That hasn't happened yet.

Nope, nope, nope. I got lost on the last sentence and had to look it up!

BYC is educational on several fronts! (And I'm not letting Tsuki subscribe to Chicken Digger's Journal either. She is too bossy now without getting new ideas!)
Sorry, it was just a joke.

I remember that too, although the Yellow Pages was gentler to use than newspaper

Honestly, at home you could clean up with a damp face washer or hop in the shower and hose off if you needed to.
Exactly! That's how people have done it for centuries.

Not taking any chances then:p
I'm rather fond of some of the Greek gods; they were always making such a mess of things.
The Nordic ones are pretty cool. One had a chariot pulled by a pair of goats called Cracktooth and Gaptooth and they pulled the chariot across the sky, lifting the sun and chasing the moon. When they galloped, the wheels and little goat feet made sparks fly and a loud rumbling noises. Come to think of it, it might've been Odin. But it's been more than forty years since I read that stuff, so don't bank on any of it :D

I’m so over the whole selfish, self-absorbed, individualistic Westerner thing. It’s been bugging me for a while now, I’ve just been thinking I’m becoming a cranky old woman:old but lately it’s beginning to really get me down. Whether it’s appalling motorists who tail-gate and have the ‘must get in front’ mentality, people who breed chickens to be little egg factories and don’t care what happens to them after a certain age or those who panic-buy Ventolin because it apparently helps you breathe better if you get Coronavirus, I’m increasingly dismayed by people’s mind-boggling selfishness.

And then I see behaviour that (somewhat) restores my faith in humanity. Today my husband was doing a long bike-ride on a quiet country road when he got hit by a car. It could have been a lot worse, he ended up with cuts and bruises and no breaks but it was a hit-and-run. There was a witness, who stopped and checked he was ok and the lady behind him stopped as well (she called me). The 1st Responders were Rural Fire Service who checked him out thoroughly. He was taken to the nearest hospital where the staff were great, and a couple of hours later the police had been given the name and address of a suspect. There is a strong probability that the driver was drunk and will probably get off with a slap on the wrist, but everyone else today was amazing. My husband said he hoped the guy was drunk because if he wasn’t, it means he deliberately hit him.

So I know that there are good people around, sometimes it just feels really hard to see them.

I'm glad your husband is okay. It could have been a lot worse. There are lots of good people out there, unfortunately some follow the wrong lead during times of weirdness. :hugs

Thanks Bob, it could have been a lot worse. I have banned him from riding solo and authorised the purchase of a decent camera.

I know some schools are trying to foster a sense of community; maybe in a generation’s time some of the selfishness may have abated.
