Ribh's D'Coopage

Thank you everyone for your concern for Marlow's health.
He appears to be fine again & enjoying his creature comforts as only a cat can.
Yes, that's my chair ~ & he has no qualms whatsoever about hogging it completely!

Neither cat was impressed when the transport people carted this stuff into their house but both cats spent the entire day slothed on their new lounge yesterday.
Pretty sure it's been approved @ the highest levels.

Kirby prefers the other end. He tends to blend. Without his white showing he's in danger of being sat upon.

Hi Bob(johns) usually I don't get closer to you than this. Usually I'm days behind.

Read yesterday that "They"expect a second wave of the virus. I'm just about eager to be hit in the face with a shovel full of dirt. All of this is just starting up my depression AGAIN!!! After I finally got weaned off my med(after many years on) a few weeks ago.

:rant
Hang in there, Nancy. The way these threads work there's usually always someone up you can chat with. :hugsI'm watching the extroverts around me come apart over social distancing so you certainly aren't alone. I'm really grateful to be an introvert just now. And it won't last forever. There is and end to this thing & every day brings that end closer.

Some of you might remember this:
This is our native beehive.
It sits on a stump behind the chicken coop, right next to the lotus pond, where it has quietly been doing its thing all year.

Well, the man has just ordered a 2nd box & we are about to do our 1st induction.
This is a non violent way of encouraging bees to starting using a new hive & once a queen egg is set we can separate the hives completely.
This should be interesting.
The new hive apparently has a viewing window...

We have bees here. There were 7 active hives but now it's down to three. The Asian Hornet arrived a couple of years ago.:(

Is that Honey bees, Shad? I was keen to do honey bees but the natives are stingless & the man was keener to do those. It takes longer to get honey [but it does happen :) ] This way we need very little equipment...

I finally got around to sending off the family tree and two pages of history etc to the young man who took Knocks three chicks the other day. This meant going through lots of pictures and of course, they brought back memories of those that have died.
This is Dink. She was the mother of Donk and the Grandmother of Knock and of course, the Greatgrandmother of the three.
I adored Dink and it took me many weeks before I stopped looking for her in her usual roosting spot up a tree. I took Dink out her tree every night more or less for five years or so.

Not a great picture but this was Cheepy, Dinks mother and that makes Cheepy the Great great grandmother of the three youngsters.

This is three generations in one picture. Knock is the small pullet on the left at the back.

Finally Knock with the three.

What a lovely shape Dink was! Everything about her is beautifully proportioned! They are all lovely of course, but Dink really takes the eye!

Are the chicks doing well in their new home?

Yup they're honey bees and they do sting but are in general pretty mellow.
I am told that in France now where they also have the Asian hornet the bees have learned how to deal with them.

Bees are clever. All that sticky looking resin @ the entrance to the hive is a predator deterrent. I'm sure honey bees will work something out. Do you harvest your hives, Shad, or let them be? I'm the one that pushed for the hives but have to admit the man has done all the practical research & I'm just following along. I will watch & learn. :D
