Ribh's D'Coopage

This is just the sweetest. I have never had a hen do that. You have a great relationship with your ladies. :love
I’m pretty envious of this too

I love it! 😍 It's always good to have someone else the birds will trust. The man will do it if I'm not around but the girls let him know he's a very poor substitute!:lau
My girls will all come running to my hubby to see if Daddy has food. 😁

I have quite the range of attitudes amongst my girls, and I am certain that Having the Roosters changes the dynamic. Some will chase me or anyone else who looks vaguely like they might be a “feeder” around the yard (mostly my rehab girls). Bob’s girls will come to anyone with food, or that even approaches their tractor. Barney’s girls will come to me when called, but Sammy’s younger girls are a wild, ok a lot wild, and detest handling. Mr Marans ladies are wary of strangers but accept DH and I. Chickie Hawk’s girls are very standoffish, unless you have food, but I always have to keep a good eye on him because he doesn’t like anyone messing with his girls, or them looking at anyone but him. All the boys will alarm at strangers though from a distance... who need a dog when I have guard chickens?

Bob, it's never my sturdy independent ladies who do this, rather the smaller, shyer birds. I think your Phyllis might, given enough time & a little encouragement. I don't think I do anything special. I don't treat all that often but I am always there @ dinner time & even my more stand offish girls will come to eat from my hand then. I don't understand it because it's exactly the same food that's in the tubs or the feeder.

I love that about them. Watch chickens should be a real thing!
No. No. No. No watch chickens. Back in the day someone gave me 6 1/2 grown wyandotte chicks who turned out to be all roosters & I had watch chickens! Boy did I have watch chickens. No~one could get near the place. They terrorrised the kids ~ the whole neighbourhood in fact. I think I was the only one who could deal with them & I didn't like them. I needed eggs so they were pretty useless.

Tuesday was a big day & by the time we got home we were pretty much write offs. By 5.30 I realised neither cat had put in an appearance for dinner. Marlow is chronic. He isn't loud but he is persistent & he tends to start the I'm empty; feed me thing several hours before dinner is due. Very unusual for him to be so late. I found him upstairs curled up in a heap of the lad's grotty fishing gear & He was not a well moggie. This was not good news. Our vets have been shut since the lockdown started & I'm not good with sickness. He refused dinner so I tucked him on the end of the bed where he usually sleeps. I say *usually* because if he gets cold or lonely during the night he comes & tucks himself in under my chin, preferably in such a way I have to wrap my arms around him, & I'm likely to find him gently patting whichever bit of me he can reach with a paw the way a mother would comfort an infant. And he's a purrer. You just have to look @ him to set him purring. Nothing. I was really worried about him. He's got a lot of Ragdoll in him so though he's nearly 10 he's still prone to running round the walls @ top speed when he's not sleeping & he follows me round the house & yard like a dog, with his tail carried high & proud. We didn't have a good night. He was still a little off the next morning but is back to his purrey ingratiating self!

The trouble with Marlow is he gets completely psychotic if I'm not around. He landed @ the vet one time because he got so stressed from me being away. I am hoping he just got in a tizz because we were gone so long ~ though he's not usually quite this bad. :barnieHe's stressing me out. Hopefully he just gave himself a tummy upset or something & there's nothing else going on because who knows when the vets will open again.

Poor guy! I hope he picks up again soon. Some of our vets have remained open, but many have also closed down. My cats’ vet is one of the open ones, so when poor Delta was run over by the Tractor, that is where he ended up going (his regular very and the emergency vet are both closed). He is going in for a follow up again today, and so far seems to be doing much better. I am convinced my Vet is the best in our area, by far. He truly loves animals, and it shows. They are not exactly deemed essential services, but neither are they fully considered non-essential and forced to close.

I’m so sorry to hear about Marlow! :hugs I’m surprised to hear your vet is shut; ours is still open but everyone has to wait in their car. I hope he is feeling better soon. ❤️

Honored to have the full tribe round today. They are not all in the picture but they were all here.

I hope he stays well today. Poor fella.
