Ribh's D'Coopage

Fat Bird came in to have a sit in the nest today. I find this a bit concerning if she doesn't lay an egg, which she didn't. I tend to think the worst that she may have reproductive problems.
However, she's done this a number of times now and every time I've checked her over and kept an eye on her for the next few days and she's been fine. Maybe she just likes to sit on some eggs from time to time.

Lilly has been doing this all year. I'm not concerned. She is her feisty self the rest of the day and it's not every day. But every so often she hangs out in a nesting box. I think they spent so much time in them in their egg laying years that maybe they just miss the peace and quiet.

She laid a few eggs last year, just to show she's not quite past it.:D They weren't the best of eggs, weak shelled and not well shaped but older hens lay eggs like that.
My sisters eldest was still laying a few eggs at 14 years old.
You are probably right though. I still worry.

I don’t want Lucy to ever lay again. She has earned her retirement.

I love fat bird. She's a survivor as well as a looker!

I find it fascinating. I hope it works for you.
It's looking good so far, Bob. There was a lot of confused activity the 1st morning but now they have the new entrance worked out the girls have gone into overdrive lugging in copious amounts of nectar & pollen.

The instinct to sit is probably still there, eggs or no eggs. Why else would my broodies sit on empty air? 🙄

I'm late with this one but the sky's still amazing.
