Ribh's D'Coopage

That is interesting. I wonder what that is about?
Snake? I dunno either, Bob. The fishing rod doesn't seem to bother them. They know I'm using it to hold me upright on the hill 😆 but they go beserk if I take a rake into the coop ~ & they know jolly well what that is used for too! 🙄

They are gorgeous!
I have to say though... they aint got nothin on Goosie!! She sounds like a psycho!! No lie! One of these days I will figure out how to upload a video to YouTube... it is a must hear!!! I actually get embarrassed if I think the neighbors can hear her ... she‘s nuts!
I've always had rather a soft spot for Goosie. Apart from anything else I just love that name! 😍

You have teenagers. I bet you one of them could help you with that. I'd love to see your flock in action! :hugs

Mine don't seem to be bothered by the big stick I carry to escort them home from their work location in case a fox gets too interested.
And when I rake up the leaves for them (the rake is a big stick with prongs) they are a real pain because they are always getting in the way!
Agreed RC. It's the rake that really upsets my lot but the fishing rod doesn't really seem to bother them. When I was freeranging [my 1st 5 girls deweeded the front footpath for me] I used the fishing rod to herd them. The neighbours thought it was hysterical. As I'm neither as limber nor as quick as I once was I found it an invaluable tool.

Maybe not proof positive that she is ready to lay but proof positive that you have her trust! And that is worth celebrating. Look at you go!

Great job and congratulations! 🍾🎉
Thanks, Bob. It's not that I want them constantly in my lap or underfoot but it makes things so much easier! :) And you know those Campines of mine are mad women. :lau

She is definitely a special cookie! And I don’t know if you remember this but she is named for the most amazing and wonderful woman to ever be in my life... my grandmother.... Goosie :love

It's not so much the loudness but it is quite a harsh sound & constant! It is what we got before Tuppence & Ha'penny started laying along with the agitation. Ha'penny still does it occasionally when she wants to lay outside of the coop. @Shadrach may have some insights as to what's with that. None of the other girls have behaved quite like that. Medh is starting to do it too.
Phyllis is a smart girl. She knows it means something. :)
I don't know Ribh. Every now and then Tribe 1 breaks out into a massive shouting which sounds a bit like a general alarm call but it seems to be something else. It's a bit like the collective purr. I have no idea what that's about either. In mid purr, they won't even stop for walnuts!!

That's such a shame Ribh. I'm sure you would get a much better reaction from them otherwise.
I'm sure you're right but our eastern terrain is steep, pot holey & dangerous. I can't afford a mishap. I will say they don't run from me. They just sort of potter around & if I'm too slow they stop & wait to see if I'm coming before heading off again. The man says they are making sure I get my daily exercise. :lau If I'm in the run, where I don't usually have any sort of a stick, everyone will approach me but lap chickens they are not! That's fine.

The man is gearing up to secure the run & got his first good look @ the eastern fence line in some time & was shocked to find there is now barely 6" of freeboard showing! :gig That's not usually the side they go over! 🙄 Their days are numbered.
