Ribh's D'Coopage

I know! When Bob and Ribh were saying 47% was steamy I’m like... that’s our winter humidity! Summer is 95 degrees and 78-80 something percent humidity... you can’t breathe! And I’m the type who sweats like a horse.. so you literally look like a candle melting 🥵
I so wish we had that low of humidity cuz I really don’t mind the heat.. and when the humidity is low it’s really great out! Even when it’s 95!
I can't stand humidity. If it's going to be over a 100°F the humidity better be below 10%

I had The littlies yesterday until late afternoon. As soon as they'd headed off to their BBQ I went out to the chickens. I swear they were super pleased to see me on my own with no littlies in tow. We had our usual dinner time pig out. Alpia was thrilled to be able to eat out of my hand. Ha'penny, Wrold & Aoife all lined up. Mhari is laying again; 2 blue eggs yesterday.

Best of all I got 2 cuddles from escapees. :lau Alpia chatted away but I was surprised by her weight. She is a well stuffed little chicken!:gigAoife also got cuddle time & seem more than happy to settle into my arms & have her head stroked.

What really surprised me, because they have been so very good with the children, is how pleased everyone was for it to be just us again. :D

That's wonderful. Look at those happy hens! I'm glad you got some alone time with them again. I bet the peace was very welcome for a moment.

Such a pity she can't sit but I understand.
She can't even defend her nest Ribh. Every hen in Tribe 1 has thrown her off her eggs at one point or another. Her life would be a misery with chicks.
She's lovely but she just isn't mother material at the moment even if I could cope with more chickens.

Yes, I remember. I feel for her though. I don't have lots of broodies but those I do have are stubborn. I wish I could let them sit but it's just not smart in our present circumstances.

Good evening everyone 😊

I had a head to head with our Little Lord yesterday. :lau He finally met his match. I'm still bigger than a 3yr old & when I say *no* it is not up for debate.:gig

You'll put him in place quickly I'm sure, I can't tell you how many 3 year olds I've had to go through this with 😡. You are in a different situation than I'm in but the ones I deal still learn "NO " means "NO"!!

I left changing Cillin's bandage until after dark tonight. Took him off the roost and brought him into the house. He isn't over keen on the whole business but has put up with it with the minimum of fidgeting. The whole procedure normally takes place without and verbal communication from Cillin. He'll move and fidget and even gently peck if I cause him discomfort, but not a word gets spoken except by me. I chat to him as I do what needs to be done.
There is a sound all the roosters make to their hens. It's a friendly sound. It's three calls, two short and one longer; bawb, bawb, baaawwwb, with the final bawb tailing away and going deeper in the process.
It's a very distinctive call and I've heard it a lot when roosters are being especially nice to their hens.
I stood Cillin on the chair tonight and as I started to take off the old bandage he made this call and very gently pecked my hand. It almost brought tears to my eyes. It's better than any allowing to be picked up, or sitting on my lap, or being very gentle when taking food, or even having food dropped for me. It is the ultimate in demonstration of affection that I know of in chickens.
I'll go to bed a very happy man.:love
