Ribh's D'Coopage

I posted this in rather a hurry the other day but I wanted to comment on what you can't see. [I was bracing a beehive for the man @ the time & in no position to take lots of pictures.]

Aoife had climbed into the garden bed & burrowed into the mulch. The flapping feed bag is what alerted me to her new nest. [No, we're not the tidiest of people!] A chicken alone on a nest is not as safe as she could be.

However, out on the sandstone paving was Morrigu, obviously doing escort duty. She's a noisy girl @ the best of times & was doing a lot of calling while keeping tabs on the 6 or so other girls who had hopped the fence & were madly racing round the perimeters screeching. I suspect Patricia of laying in next door's yard... 🙄

The Campines are efficient layers. No lolling about in nests for them. Unlike the BRs who are likely to star gaze all day. I'm lucky to have got the shots I did. There's no dilly~dallying with a Campine. When she was done she called once, hopped of the nest, Morrigu began screeching & she & Aoife promptly headed back to the run & hopped back in.

Meanwhile the rest of my scattered flock also put in an appearance & one by one hopped back over the fence, @ which point the entire lot congregated @ the end of the coop & screamed @ me to get a move on with dinner.

Morrigu is not a high status girl & she's something of a nut job so I was rather surprised to see Aoife, who's pretty smart, entrust her safety to Morrigu.

Oh they are so lively! And such a big litter/kindle. I didn't know that they were that active before they grow fur.
How old are they Renee?
Hi I'm sorry it took so long to answer! I've been running like crazy all day! They are 4-6 hours old in the video! That was Monday, they are 3 days old today. I had to feed some by hand because there are so many of them. Yesterday I held the mom on her back in my lap & had her nurse 6 or 7 of them, they were very skinny, today I only had to feed 3 so I managed to get some formula into them. Their eyes should open between 7 & 10 days. The white hair on them is from their mom!
