Thank you evey one for the kind words. His mom died at 7:30 this morning. In 5 more days it will be 6 months since his dad died. He's finally sleeping and I'm doing chicken therapy.

What did you love about Wuthering Heights? (I’m not being sarcastic, I’m genuinely curious). It’s been touted as an epic love story, but all I can remember about it is two massive narcissists putting each other through the wringer. It’s been a few years since I read it, maybe I should read it again, if only to confirm my views.

I'm with you there Lozzy.

I was in such a bad mood from reading the book I kept wanting to shout "pull your head in!" at the characters and throw the book at the wall.

I've been asked not to read it again...

All my life I've had to work to `try & fit in with how other people think & do things. My brain really is scrambled differently.

It's called being Neurodivergent Ribh and we need that! How boring would life be if we all thought the same way?

I read Of Mice & Men in high school. I haven’t read the others.

I like Jules Verne as an author.

I think that was a national curriculum thing: reading a trio of an author's books. I did DH Lawrence.

We did "Of Mice and Men" too, along with "1984" , "Animal Farm", "Brave New World" and the inevitable Shakespeare.

Thinking back on it, is it any wonder teenagers are depressed?

. It is rare that I give up on a book once I have started it. I feel I must finish it. Even if I don't care for it.

Life's too short to read bad books! If I feel I really must know what happens [rare if it's that bad] I just read the ending & skip everything else. I know, I know, I'm terrible. Bad habit or not an ending will often tell you if the rest is worthwhile. @MaryJanet: Have you read any Tracy Chevalier?

All of the above Plus Catch~22, which I liked but can't remember. We got dragged along to Romeo & Juliet ~ which I have always found exquisitely funny. I'm sure Shakespeare meant it as a comedy! So Here I was rolling in the aisles while everyone else was destroying their boxes of tissues!

I did both of those as well ~ but I went to a snot school & was in the A stream for English so we did a Shakespeare every year ~ & sometimes 2.

No I haven't. Which book would you recommend for someone new to her work?

I'm not sure she'd be your thing but I quite like novels that introduce me to things I know nothing about. Chevalier is The Girl with the Pearl Ear~ring author ~ so about Vermeer. The Lady & the Unicorn is about Medieval tapestry weaving ~ which I found a fascinating read. Remarkable Creatures is about fossil hunting but probably my favourite is Virgin Blue which is a very odd little story.

I like some of Attwood too.
