That is the most difficult thing to do. Many writers try it, few pull it off well.John Banville's By The Sea has three timelines which are entwined in such a way that I never felt lost.

I can totally see it and it is making me feel better about the play. Maybe that was Shakespeare's intent all along. As a comedy it's hysterical. All that teenage hysterical, melodramatic angst.
I love it,Despite all the side tracking I do still keep chickens!
Let's all bury her!

I have another friend that will read the ending of a book before she buys it. I never understood that. The worst ending to any novel I ever read was the ending to The Natural. I was so let down. The movie fixed that. If I had read the ending first I would have never read the book.Life's too short to read bad books! If I feel I really must know what happens [rare if it's that bad] I just read the ending & skip everything else. I know, I know, I'm terrible.
Bad habit or not an ending will often tell you if the rest is worthwhile. @MaryJanet: Have you read any Tracy Chevalier?
Hamlet and King Lear here. Very high on the depressing scale. We did "Macbeth" and "Hamlet" no romances or comedies for us!
Now those are some "happy" books! Yikes!I read all of those except Brave New World, a couple more we read was Bridge to Terabithia and Slaughterhouse 5.
Good morning Bob.Good evening folks![]()
I just got my new glasses yesterday. My eyes were so bad I could no longer read with my glasses on despite the bifocal. It took months in the days of Covid for them to be made.My eyes get very tired very quickly these days.![]()
