Kirby got rushed to the Vet today. He was close to having a ruptured spleen. Symptoms came on suddenly over the weekend but he has responded to treatment & is doing well.
But what I wanted to share is:
My vets keep chickens!
Some of those free ranging today.

But I think this girl is a big beautiful Sussex.
And a rooster! I thought he was quite handsome.e & has a lovely crow.

Yep. There were @ least 1/2 a dozen wandering about. The mainland surgery is LARGE. They do horses & other farm animals as well as chickens.

It snowed in state college yesterday as I was at the Penn State game. Bitter cold. Chance of snow here on Monday! Major temperature changes coming!

Yup. It’s here. Snowing here now. Not a high drama snow, just flurries. Also cold.
I did level one winterization of the Chicken Palace which is to close the people door between coop and run. I already closed the windows when Minnie was in the hospital ward.
I have left the chicken door open so they can come and go, but now they need to use the steps.
Minnie gave a demonstration to everyone of the correct technique for using the steps before I closed the people door. Diana doesn’t seem to be paying much attention to the demo.

First, how did you know he had a spleen problem?
Second, chicken vet? Not around here, you are quite lucky.
