Wow! That's quite full on. I feel like they might've given you time to think about it. On the other hand, she's probably better off with you. Is she a bantam cochin or standard?

Bantam. The owner is quite peeved as feed is costing them & they're not getting any eggs. I already have my freeloaders. And my keeping arrangements aren't really set up for bantams. Most of mine are fliers & cope but the cochin is a heavy feather footed girl & no flier. My perch is only just fitting 16 girls. Even one extra is going to make it very squashy. I would need to make another rail & that would mean a 3rd small step ladder & an extra length of timber. I will have to think about it.

Good on you for taking her in. She was not fully appreciated before and I'm sure she'll find a happier life with you and in time, maybe even lay an egg ot two.

Well, it's not decided yet, but if push comes to shove I'm a sucker & quarrantine won't be neceassary as any Germs Ha'penny has already brought in via her fence hopping.

I was thinking that too. One less thing to do. If there's a contagious health problem it would've spread already.

I was putting my girls up last night [& we all know what a circus that is ] when my neighbour called me over, worried about her Langshan. By the time I got there, there was nothing anyone could do. She was fine just moments before, strutting round their yard as usual with her Cochin buddy, then laid an egg & collapsed. I gave my neighbour some Amprolium, just in case, for her other hen but she promptly offered me the Cochin. I was rather flabbergasted. I know her partner doesn't like the chickens but they actually belong to her daughters & I was too stunned to explain adding a single chicken into an exsisting flock is never a good idea. I feel so sorry for the cochin. She is penned today & looks so sad & loney & my girls are all round the other side of the house sheltering from the wind. Cochins have never been on my want list & my neighbour says her girls haven't laid in 6 months! They are only young hens so should still be laying fairly regularly.

Yes, it is. If I add any more girls I want to put Campine eggs under this year's broodies but I am so sad for her.

Ha'penny is laying monster eggs.
Pretty sure the other one is a Vorwerk.
Luna's are browner & Portia's have an almost purple haze to them. Plus she is still laying outside.
