Ha'penny is the oldest hen in my tribe. She must be over 7 now & up until a month or so ago she was still laying regularly. Sure, some of her eggs were very thin shelled but most were ok.
Then suddenly there was nary an egg in sight from her. Her comb was still nicely red so I assumed she was hopping the fence & laying in the neighbour's garden. He went all over it with a fine tooth comb ~ no eggs. I think she is done.
She is the most experienced hen I have so worth her weight in feed ~ apart from the fact she is a very pretty girl indeed!

Gotta love the old ladies! I was adding up Mary's age today: 6! Which is quite good for an Australorp. And she's still laying.

That's wonderful. It's so nice to see older chickens. It's like confirmation that it can happen. Congrats to both the old ladies!

Sorry to butt into your thread, but I know several people on this thread know Shadrach & occasionally pop onto his thread.
He posted this at 7am UK time on his ex batt thread & thought you’d like to know, hope it’s not a breach of BYC etiquette.

““Got caught up in the bug wars. Got splatered all over my bed. Everything is leaking including my brain.
Eldest came over said I look like shite and went got husband who came with nurse from work, said I looked like shite and called in the paras.
Paras started talking about hospital. I said feck no! they are the last place you want to be if your sick unless they're cutting bits off or sowing bits on.
I may or may not be back.””

Everyone over on his thread is rooting for a swift recovery.

I am pretty sure he doesn’t want me to turn on the taps.
Later of course he pulled the bath mat in so he could snuggle with it.

Bathtubs are cool - though you, of course, are going into winter temperatures. Mine are lying on tiles, table tops , @ the fridge door - anywhere they can get some cool air.
