Ribh's D'Coopage

I try not to name chicks until I'm pretty sure they're going to make it but when she stood fully extended this afternoon I knew there was only one possible name:

Ooh, hello, I’ve got a Pingu found at 2 days old:

Now 3 1/2 and known as Professor Sir Gerald Pingu:

Was an early adventurer so inevitable I suppose. Fingers crossed yours is more of a Pinga..

Great minds think alike!
Thank you, he is also a delight and good to the girls. Did go through a few rough patches as we both learned but now I think we have reached an understanding. He uses me as a perch and foot warmer and I provide treats and access to the garden when we are not in flockdown due to avian flu.

This was the first chick out. She looks to have something of Tootsie's colouring & feathered feet!
She's growing nicely but looks like she will be smooth feathered.

The 2nd chick out is bigger than the other two. There may be some frizzling looking @ those wing tips. Nothing really indicating this little one is a cockerel so I am holding out hope for all bantams

And Pingu.
Look @ those wing tips! The hen mothering her is a beautiful black frizzle. Another would be an absolute delight. She is bare legged too.
So far everyone is doing really well & the mothers are doing a great job. After Cobweb, who was a mad disaster, I am impressed with these first time mum's.

I hate louvres!
Not least because Freya uses them as her own personal gymnastics apparatus.

She's chasing geckos.

As a rule these 2 can't abide each other.
Sometimes exceptions have to be made.

I went down to put the chooks up for the night & found a newly hatched chick flopping about outside the nesting boxes. No idea where it came from as everyone seems to have the right number of eggs & I have no extra sitters, though my lot are being their usual crazy selves. The 4 sitters I began with are not the 4 covering the eggs now. The ginger frizzle is ferocious & draws blood. She seems to have taken over from her mum who is an experienced mother. Sweet, docile Chavi has moved in with her & is busily stealing eggs. Bellatrix has taken over from a ginger frizzle & has Mustard Seed in with her. I popped the chick in with them - no issues & they have an egg pipping so that should work if the chick survives. It didn't look too good & I have no idea how long it had been there. It was still damp so very, very new. This chick raising business is going to make me old before my time!
How does that happen?
