Gwen. Those are tapeworms. You need to worm your chickens with Valbazen (albendazole). Valbazen is a liquid wormer used to kill tapeworms, roundworms and a host of other worms in cattle and sheep. I used it for my chickens when tapeworms showed up earlier this year. You can purchase it online from jeffers livestock. Dosage is as follows: One half cc/ml for standard size chicken....one quarter cc/ml for small size chicken. Retreat in 14 days. Eggs must be thrown in the garbage. The best way to give it to your chickens is to put it on a piece of bread and give a piece to each chicken. They will gobble the bread down with the valbazen on it. Ivermectin and safeguard will not kill tapeworms. Good luck.

Tapeworm infections can be controlled by regular treatment of the bird with fenbendazole or leviamisole."

HAHAHA dawg beat me to it

I found the Valbazen on the internet. However, I've read that Praziquantel is just as effect on tapeworms and is much cheaper. Valbazen runs about $40 for a 500ml bottle and Praziquantel, I can buy by the dose, running about .50 cents per dose. Has anyone used Praziquantel for their chickens?

Zimectrin Gold and Quest Plus which are paste horse wormers contains praziquantel/ ivermectin, moxidectin/praziquatel respectively...ARE cheaper than Valbazen but they only kill one type of tapeworm. Valbazen kills several types of tapeworms. If you decide to use Zimectrin Gold or Quest Plus, the dosage is a small pea size for your chickens, size of your chickens doesnt matter (I dont recommend use on chicks.) I prefer the Valbazen as it kills many other types of worms. Your choice...good luck.
