Really sorry for your loss. Your pic reminded me of our very first loss ever too:

This is our favorite hen ever. She got taken from us by a raccoon last July. She was the sweetest / nicest of all our girls (well, the chicken girls at least). I remember I was really upset and it bothered me for quite a few days.

Now the two of them can peck at heavenly worms together!

I, too, want to say how sorry I am about Lacy. I remember so well when you got Hawkeye to breed with your beautiful slw girls and all the wonderful photos of her and her sisters. The first one's got to be the hardest. I'm glad for YOU that she didn't die from a predator getting her because she wasn't in the coop. Then you would have been REALLY devastated with guilt. Sorry to hear of your loss.

Sometimes they show no outward signs of a problem, or develop a problem so fast and there is nothing you could have done, like the hen I brought home 3 weeks ago that just had a heart attack and died in my arms, just for no reason.

My heart goes out to you, as I'm sure all of us here share the sorrow of loosing one of our birds.

I'm sorry for your loss Cyndi.I know how hard it is cause I had a hen die on Christmas morning this past year.She had a heart attack and died right while I was holding her.She was suppose to be a white rock but the feed store had her mis tagged and I think she was a cornish rock cross cause she was huge.She got around fairly good in the chicken yard but I didn't expect her to live very long once I figured out what she was.I guess nine months for a cornish rock hen isn't too bad, in fact I have a roo that is the same age as her and he is still living and I bet he weighs close to 20 lbs.Anyway here is a picture of one of my two SLW hens,I haven't named her but she is the head hen in her pen.
