I bought three new chicks today. Two blue Ameracauna and a blue/black split. The split is 2 wks and the blues are almost 4 mos. I left them together long enough to make a tsc run and back. When I got back, the split had literally been split! The blues had pecked off her back and some wing feathers and also at her vent. Her vent is now ripped. I am unable to go back to tsc for anything. But I did lightly use a poultry wound care spray that has worked well for my other birds. What "home remedy" can I do to help her heal? She is so sweet and has bonded to me. I really don't want to cull her.
She is still tweeting. Passing a small amount of the white part of her poop. But I can tell her but hurts.... What can I "wash" her with and what is the method? I've never had this happen before so freaking slightly.

Betadine I’m not sure if that’s spelled correctly the real orange antiseptic. Neosporin or any first aid ointment you have on hand try not to get it down inside the vent focus on the area farther away then as it heals work your way closer to the vent. her back will heal fine it’s just plucked you add any of those first aid antiseptics and ointments here also. Just keep her separated and make sure she’s eating and drinking adding minced garlic to her water will fight any infections from the inside out. Hope this is helpful. And I hope she recovers. If she’s not feeling or acting better in a couple days maybe worth a trip to your vet.

You can use the poultry wound spray on her back and vent, but then you will need to keep her warm so she doesn’t get cold until she is completely dry. Betadine with water could also be used. Is there a hole in her back? Her vent looks very damaged, and it could be hard for her to poop or to lay eggs in the future. I am not even sure that she will survive this. Many would probably suggest putting this little one out of her misery. I do hope that you can save her, but it will be a lot of work. She could have brain damage or internal injuries.

Baby chicks should never be left with grown chickens, since they think it is an outsider they should go after. The only exception is a chick raised in a flock by a broody hen who will fight to protect them. Sorry about your chick.

She bonded to me today after I got her. Chirping sounds normal not panicked unless I try to put her down. Will try the Neosporin. She's not bleeding. The wound spray stopped what little of that there was. Don't have betaine. Is there an alternative?

Did they have these chicks together at tsc? Or did you put them together after purchase? That is a huge age difference to be put directly together the two week old should be in a brooder still or in the coop but with a separated and safe area with a heat source. In my research having an area where than can see but can’t touch each other is how you get them to know each other.

I don't usually keep 4mos and chicks together. I have "step" coops and integration pens. They came from the breeder together this way and all day showed no signs of aggression. It wasn't until we left to pick up feed for our poults that this happened. I was under the understanding that they were raised together so I didn't want to stress out the chick by removing her from pullets she was familiar with. As I stated, this is something I have not ever had to deal with as I do not tolerate aggression in my flocks and do my absolute best to insure everyone is properly and fully integrated.

These are NOT tsc chicks/pullets. These are pure breeder quality that came together.
