Very helpful! She passed only the white part of her poop a few mins ago...looks normal except for small speck of pinkish from the wound.

Would a tiny butterfly or strip bandage to keep the ripped spot closed together be helpful in keeping the majority of the year from being exposed to bacteria? I could wrap some vet tape to keep her from pecking at it. Gave some electrolytes but at the moment she is nestled in, well, my chest. She freaks out when I put her in the brooder. I did not put shavings but a soft towel with a paper towel on top so I can easily keep it and her clean.

Even if you cut the sticky part of a bandaid into a strip that would hold that part together. It’s hard to say without a close exam if any internal structure is damaged. I was thinking soft food and not a lot of it to keep her from straining.

A small stuffed animal or something soft may soothe her. I really don’t think anything could be used to pull the wound together. Stay with wound spray, plain neosporin/triple antibiotic ointment, but no peroxide, since it can delay wound healing. Sorry that you are dealing with this, and this happened with the older pullets. Perhaps it was because they were all in a new environment.

These types of wounds are more easily managed in an older bird who could have a daily Epsom salts bath to clean up the wound. But since she is just a little chick, it might be better to just flush her little vent area with saline or the wound spray to keep it clean, and reapply the ointment twice a day. Try getting her to eat some chick crumbles mixed with water. The poultry nutridrench is a good idea.

She won't drink the electrolytes on her own so I will give her some in doses with a small syringe. Nitro drench in her mushy mashy starter crumble. Stuffie and mirror. I have put her in my bathroom with the air vent closed and am currently checking temp on the heat pad. She is all cleaned up, flushed, and put on Neosporin. It doesn't look as bad now. Looks more like the outer layer of skin is mostly what ripped. Some puncturing to the flesh around the vent. No signs of damage as far as I can see inside. One tiny puncture mark above the vent slightly under the right of tail feathers. I don't see that it is deep. More a flesh wound. She has settled down considerably and I believe is exhausted from all of this.
