This spring, my new husband-bless his heart, he's new to chickens, too- bought me a RIR to add to my flock of 2 barred rocks ( a year old, each). She has yet to lay an egg, and she has begun to crow (very lightly, but surely). We have had a very hard time getting them to get used to each other. Just now, have we been able to get them get along with each other in the coop. But, I've been told she's a pseudo rooster... the problem is... I don't have a clue what that is! What is a pseudo rooster? and do I have one? And what does all this mean? I live in city limits, and my city ordinances say I can have chickens as long as they are not a nuisance to my neighbors. Now, I'm afraid she/he may become a nuisance!

I have a R-I-R hen will act just like a rooster to my other girls. She even walks upright like a Roo. I think it happens when no Roo is present.

Can you post a picture of her? That will help with IDing gender. My top hen will mount other hens to keep everyone in line. I do not have a rooster. That being said, mine does not crow. My hens are loud however when they sing their egg song but no one "crows".

Picture please......Just had a RIR her name was lucy, she was big and gorgeous,. and
then the crow came,.her face took on that beautiful red and her legs got huge...Hence
Lucy became Louie and had to be placed elseware.. But I really kept thinking it would
be a hen, my friend said I was in "Rooster Denial"

Thank you for the comments. I will post a pic soon of her. I have one, but its older. She has changed since then and I'm sure an updated pic would be best.

Here's my Rudy roo.
