RIR Breed Thread

A couple of my PineGrove RIRs, 8 wks old .... I only have 5.
I am a terrible photographer, and most of the photos turned out too dark.

My RIRs and rosecomb RIRs from Dick Horstman, 8 wks old, I have 18 ....

This one is weird. I don't know how to explain it, but it looks like he is, "bow-legged," when he walks. Note, he has his feathers out here, showing skin underneath (not yet feathered area, I guess).

Here is another weird one. I think it must be a dwarf or something.

My 11 1/2 week old RIRs ....

A closer shot of #4 .... What is this called (looks like bowed-legs)

And how about #5, #6, #7, #8 (#6 look smaller to you? It is.)

#9, #10, #11, #12, #13, #14, #15 ....
Can we guess how many roosters here? Oh, the one on the end (with yellow legs and a pink band) is from my Pine Grove hatch. All the others are from Dick Horstman's chicks that I ordered from him. I ordered 10 RIR and 10 Rosecomb RIR, though that is not what I received. I have 3 (or was it 4? I'll have to go recount) Rosecomb RIRs.

SO, tell me, what do you think? I would love to hear your opinions.

hi katie.nice flock of chicks. it goes to show you that chicks from a breeder will be, some great birds, some not so great birds, where as hatchery chicks grow faster, feather faster and seem to be more uniform because these trait have been crossbred into them. I have 10 cali white hatchery chicks and all but one are identical pefect little white pullets, all feathered and outgrowing my breeders chicks. Still, I have 23 rir sc from pine grove - 5 weeks old and 16 rir rc - 8 weeks, from Adrian Radamacher ( got a good pic of those on My Page ) AND 24 Dominiques from bobsbiddies - 3 weeks old, all comming along nicely. Even in small flocks I believe cull is the word!

Hi Kathy,
Your Reds are looking good.
The one with the "bowed legs" might have a touch of a Vitamin D deficiency.
I think I see 4 roosters in the picture you was asking about...
