Did I read somewhere that you can breed RIR and Rosecomb RIR together, and yet they are still, "pure?" Maybe I am just imagining this, but it seems like I read it somewhere.

I have talked about crossing Single comb and Rose comb Red on here once or twice and have done the cross. I will say that you will get a mixture of Single and Rose combs the majority being Rose comb and that the comb of the Rose comb will suffer greatly. I would not recommend crossing the Single and Rose comb unless you do plain to cull heavy.. (Real heavy)
Single comb and Rose comb Red are the same breed just different variety so they would be pure.
Hi everyone...just found this thread. I can't believe that TSC mislabels their chicks! That's really aggravating! I thought as well that I was getting RIR's....here's a pic of my ( BEAUTIFUL anyhow! )RIR's at about 10 weeks old.....
And a couple of sexlinks(?) that TSC was selling as RIR's as well..argh!!! What are they???!!!
I can see the difference now in the colors...so I can't show these,can I?
Hatchery stock is Production Reds, often consisting of crosses with RIRs. If you are looking for quality RIRs your best bet would be to purchase from a breeder, rather than a hatchery.
Good luck. Your birds look very healthy, and will surely produce many eggs for you.
