Hi fellow chicken lovers,
My name is Liz and I'm from MA. Just joined yesterday.
Had chickens years ago and now have a question to ask.
I purchased 6 RIR girls that are supposed to be about 18 wks. old.
To me they look small. Perhaps about a pound and a half . Does that
sound about right ? Can't seem to remember. Senility perhaps ??
Bought from a local quail/chicken farm.
Can't read all your forums fast enough ! Spent hours online reading
yesterday. Got lots of good advice and learned lots from you folks.
Thanks for any insight you can give me on my RIR.

Hi Liz,
I have some that are 14 weeks and I would guess they weigh about 3 lbs at least. They are almost as big as the 22 weekers.
And BTW, Welcome to BYC!

That's interesting. I will call the man tomorrow and talk to him. The word
"banty" never came up. Not that there's anything wrong with a banty, just not what I wanted.
Thanks for the welcome too. :))

hi Liz, my RIR's are about the same age and weigh more then that, about 4-5 pounds each........good luck and we are glad you are here !

Hi Liz and welcome!

My RIR girls started laying when just under 5 months...yours are 4 1/2 months now so definately something not right with weight...they should be closer to five or six pounds. Sorry.

Unless of course they meant 8 weeks, not 18....just a thought.

Good luck, Sally
