Roadside egg stand

I was just talking to a fellow parent today and he was telling me how he was discontinuing his stand this year because he keep being robbed! Last year they even went to the trouble of unscrewing the lockbox from his stand! I was shocked, because we live in an affluent, relatively rural area.

I'm thinking of manning the stand with my kids this summer, and maybe on Saturdays after that. Anyone else have these problems? Any suggestions?

Myself, I don't have the time or patience to sit at a stand. I put ads on CL and let folks call me. We set up a time for pick up.

I agree, I wouldn't have the patience & it wouldn't be worth it, but I live about 1000 feet from the road. I used to sell bedding plants & cut flowers and each year I would have more theft. Finally the last year people would walk off with several $6 trays of stuff at a time. My husband saw someone park down the road & carry stuff down. The road is a 2 lane State highway in a semi rural area & it just became not worth it. If you would enjoy sitting there, then by all means do it, just not a money/time equation I would feel is worth doing.
