Pigeon are cold weather birds and I'm not sure how anyone loses them to cold. Up north I used all wire cages with boards on top n gave boxes for nesting in winter below freezing (-100 at times), feeding only scratch grains mixed wild bird seedand and maybe some dog food, provided grit, and gave water twice daily or when getting up going to bed and coming n going in between. Down south now at current place I'm lazy and pamper these lot more n they have problems non others did, wild birds were problem for years till last year. Squeakers don't die from cold, they may die from first time young parents but mostly from underlying disease/parasites, from moisture mold from poop/dust build up, pest wild birds rodents insects in loft coop etc.
