Try pouring water on the gorund somewhere they like to lay. In dirt or sand would be best. They will lay in the cool ground and it will cool them off.

OK *sighs* I'll try everything I can think of. The temp has gone up at least 5 degrees since I posted this thread.

When it is real hot then I put a box fan outside the chicken yard fence blowing inward and they always gather in front of the fan and sit on the ground. If it is going to rain then I place the fan under a card table type structure to keep it out of the rain. I also use the mister on my hose sprayer and spray the ground where they like to congregate. Three waterers of plain water are out for them. I discovered that they do not drink much water if I put the soluble vitamins in it. They can only give off body heat through panting, lifting their wings to air their "armpits", pooping and also letting air get to their legs. Fans and cool moist ground to sit on seems to work for mine.....and have shade available. Walmart has small portable battery operated fans that might fit in your space for them. Good luck.

If you can't bring the cool to them, bring them to the cool- garage, basement, bathroom, somewhere you can run the AC, or a fan.

Shade is one of the most important things to provide when it is hot as well as cool water. If their coop is moveable try putting it under trees. You can use tarps, sheets, shade cloth, but they need shade. If that is not possible, move them during the hot part of the day to a shaded building or porch.

Can you bring them in the house? I live in Florida and I put them in the warmest room. Not too cold. It's so Hot here. The warmest room is still 10 degrees cooler. Maybe the garage?

Give them a wading place to cool their feet off. I use a 4" deep lid from a rubbermaid like tote. They love it, use it a lot and it's easy to change the water a couple times a day to keep them interested. They drink out of it too when they wade, yuk, but it helps them drink more, stay hydrated, cooler, happier. Also, you can Tie out a tarp on the sunny side of their run, to shade the ground next to their run, so not so much heat is reflected into their pens. Try not to cut off the breeze, just shade as much ground as possible. Hope he's feeling better soon.

give them some pedialyte too. the electrolytes will help. Sometimes, spritzing some cool water in their armpits... cool, not cold.
