One of my roos (Buff Orpington, just over 5 months old) came down with a wheeze when he breathes. Today his crow is softer like he is getting larangitis (?sp). He is in the coop and yard with 2 other roos and 25 females. He has no other symptoms that I have noticed. He is still active and eating.

What do I need to do? If he needs to be separated, does he need to be out of the same coop as everyone else? The same yard? What about meds? I live in a very small town with limited resources. Do have a TCS and WalMart.

My rooster Tubbers starting have breathing troubles yesterday, which included heavy breathing, wheezing and whining. I took him to the vet today and it turned out to be pnuemonia. They gave me some antibiotics to give him. If your Roo gets any worse you may want to get them checked out. I caught it early so he has a better chance of surviving. They said that this type of pnuemonia is not contagious, so your other chickens would be fine. I don't know if this helped.

See my other post for more about it.

Thank you. It was to be so cold here last night that I didn't have the heart to separate him from the others - even knowing that I was taking a chance of the rest getting sick. We really don't have anywhere protected (from weather or other critters) to put him so the decision was made just to let him stay in the coop.
It had rained the day before he got sick and he was free to go outside. It turned cold that night. The next night was when I noticed the wheezing.
Thanks again for the info.
