Roo Paranoia

I think that you should go with your original plan and get the breeds that you want. As long as you don't get them straight run, and instead get them sexed, you have a good chance of getting all girls - but make sure you have a back up in case you do get a roo! As sad as that would be, I think it's worth the risk to get the breed that you want. I have a black star, and she is a sweet heart and loves to be pet and sit on my shoulder. However, she is also the most treat obsessed and gets so excited that she often bites. Good luck!

You should check if "my pet chicken" has the breeds you would like.
They can sex them for you. Then you shouldn't have a roo problem.
Roo's are great to have, but its hard to have more then 1

I've had an "accidental rooster" and once two of them, in almost every batch of pullets I've bought. I just keep building more coops and pens to house them all.

I am really happy with mypetchicken.com too. I received 6 pullets and a baby brahma rooster last week. Ideal will sex them for you too, as will other hatcheries, but these two don't require large quantities of chickies.
