Roo with abscess!

Try making a small tiny cut on his wattle with a scalpel ect and squeeze his wattle. If blood comes out stop if pus comes out continue to squeeze the rest out.

I can see little scabby areas, I thought I would try to soften them off with a compress, maybe open a little. The hard lump under his chin, between the wattles...there is no opening or scab...it feels too solid to drain out. I imagine it's a large chunk of pus...what would help that?

Okay, I softened a scab and lifted it off. Picked a little with a some kind of cuticle tool thing (I'm clueless about anything beautifying, haha) and started finding dead tissue, black. Also, a lot of cheesey pus. I'm irrigating with hydrogen peroxide to break it up, then excavating. The swollen wattle is just full of crap, kind of hollow. Anyway, an update.

Thats great squeeze it all out. Then apply any healing ointment you have.Do whatever you can to get the pus out.Good luck!

While I got *some* of the stuff out, I can't seem to get it all. I can put this little tool inside the wattle and touch the lump of infection, but can't break it up. Hydrogen peroxide only does so much....
The lump itself has not gotten bigger, if it was big enough to stretch his skin, I would feel more comfortable lancing it. Seems like less of a bad idea that way for some reason. I've never had to cut any of my get abscesses, and this one is not right at a wound. Squeezing it is not moving it, or anything else in there. It all will have to come out, just not sure how to proceed.

If it must be removed, and it is attached to the inside of the skin, and is as big as it looks in the picture, it appears to me it may be best to take the whole wattle off. I've never dealt with such a problem though, so I wouldn't know. Just my guess. Or you may make a long cut to try to excise the mass? I'm thinking it wouldn't require that large a cut if you used some teeny-tiny sterilized scissors and cut it off in pieces to remove. Might need sutures if you did either of those, though. I'm interested in medical things, so you've got me curious. I hope your roo recovers fine!

I talked with a vet about it. She gave me some curved syringes to use. I fill with hydrogen peroxide to kind of help break up the crap. Do a little scraping inside with a cuticle too (I think it is), put some betadine in there, and then triple antibiotic. Oh, I start with a warm compress. I don't know how this is going to go, but she did say it would be a long process. I am reluctant to do any snipping. I'm not squeamish about much, but that bothers me. It is an option on the table though, if this flushing/antibiotic treatment doesn't work.
