Rooster attacked my DS & DD

You absolutely can not keep a rooster that attacks your children's faces. A rooster can do serious damage.

That's about as long as he would have lived at my place, too.

I was expecting a "what should I do?" post. Glad you knew how to handle it.

Good going! There's just something a lot more satisfying about klonking a fool in the head rather than trying to be really sweet and nice to something that is a real danger to your kids. I'd have done that exact same thing, but only because I no longer play golf and dont' have my clubs.
