Rooster cant walk

He can't walk because he's in excruciating pain. Those leg mites burrow in under the scales lift them away from his tissue and inflame the tissue and his nerve endings are behaving in the same way your finger tips would if someone pried up all your finger nails.

You could see a very dramatic recovery and your rooster walking again if you will give him a nice long soak in warm water and Epsom salt. After about twenty minutes, take a fingernail brush and brush all the dirt and drowned mites out from under his scales that you can. Spend some quality time on this.

Rinse and dry, then the next step is to coat his legs and feet in a good heavy non-toxic oil that won't run right off. Castor oil is thick and rich and has antibiotic properties that can help heal his tissue. Over the next couple days, the mites will smother and die. Then in a week you need to repeat this process in case any mite eggs have hatched and to scrub away all the dead ones. Coat again with oil.

In a week you will see a real improvement. I would give him a final treatment a month later since this is an extremely bad infestation. For the pain, one baby aspirin in the morning and one at night will make him feel so much better, too.

You would do well to check your other chickens and to treat your roosts with permethrin.
