Rooster in a fight, Eye possibly damaged. Now, it looks like he broke his skull/upper top beak. Any

Here's a diagram of my best guess of what happened. This is an oversimplification, but the basic gist of it.

I say time will heal it. You'd be surprised how much roosters can go through. Put him in a safe place away from the other birds and most definitely away from the roo who did this to him. Plenty of food and water.

Does he have trouble eating or drinking? lots of TLC and this roo will love you for it. From what you say he sounds like a nice guy. Good luck

I suggest a quick run to the vet.I had a hen got attacked by a dog,and have broken jaw (Pretty sure),and within about 3 weeks, the bone "Magically" found it's self in the right place, and now she is caring for baby chicks. She also had swollen ear,but it managed to heal, had to shred the large scab off (It was growing inside her ear hole!)I just did that today, (This was about 6-8 months ago maybe?)

This being said,I guess they could heal fast, but some injuries may just be too serious.Although, the ones you describe, aren't like none that I have had.

My rooster Joe,killed his own blood.Spurred both of his sons eyes. They were puffy, bloody, and had all types of things running out them, and either broke,or spraned his neck, had to shoot the poor guy.

If the bone is broken to close to the nostrils,or anywhere that close to its skull, you serious may need take hi to avet,EVEN if you suspect this is what happens.

This rooster's condition is one of a long series of bad-luck events in the past couple of weeks. I might be cursed.

First came the end-of-schoolyear projects, then the Lyme disease, followed swiftly by hand-foot-and-mouth, finals, and now a maimed chicken. The recent past has been unlucky to say the least.

I hope that he will at least recover usage of his beak. He had eaten some crushed Ritz I gave him, but strangely, did not finish them, which is completely uncharacteristic of a chicken with more than a week to live. Unfortunately, my family isn't in the financial position to be making any vet trips. For the time being, I will just have to keep him locked up and probably feed him soft foods. Any suggestion which soft foods are the best and easiest to prepare?

Scrambled eggs&fresh water, upuntil you figure out something to do.Sounds like your roosters need a"bachelor pen.

Scrambled eggs will do. I have also heard that yogurt can promote digestive health, so perhaps I might add that in for him, and chicken feed turns soft with water, but will definitely not be as full of protein as the eggs. Are there any foods in particular that might speed healing in his facial bones? I would guess calcium would help.

This morning I fed him some scrambled eggs, and he has been kept locked up. He seems to be crowing more or less fine, and I couldn't see sign of fracture when he crowed. he still seems to be holding his beak more closed then often. Maybe if I'm lucky, the fracture may have been a figment of my own paranoia of his health, but I will still give him soft foods.

Meanwhile, there seems to be quite a bit of swelling around his bad eye. I believe this is to be expected.

I'm not certain what the garlic would do, so please enlighten me. Also, what is the best source of calcium for him? Would crushed egg shells do?
