Good Lord, I can't believe how attached I've gotten to The Abomination. And I guess it's mutual.

I got home yesterday and they were all fussing. They managed to eat most of their food, and what was left they had managed to render pretty much inedible. Among their complaints I could hear "The Bom"'s distinctive whining. He makes a sound like a lovesick bull I swear.

So I got them a fresh bowl of FF, and placed it in the cage. All of them attacked it like they were starving.....except my super cool boy. He came down to the end of the cage I was at and stood there, still whining. I let him out, and he jumped into my arms. He got a good 10 minute cuddle while the rest of the pigs ate. I put him back in and he went and got dinner too.

It is sooooo awesome that even hungry, he'd rather hang out with me than eat.

2 months ago, I had no idea whatsoever that chickens could be this awesome.

That’s so cute! Hopefully when his hormones kick in he doesn’t get mean. My boy, Ranger loves to follow me around or walk in front of me because he knows my schedule. And he comes right next to me and crows every hour. Post a pic of your cockerel.

Yeah, I'm really hoping puberty doesn't make him into a jerk like the other two roos already are. By the way, now I have another baby roo crowing every morning. It's getting ridiculous. But The Abomination only whines....no crowing yet. He is definitely the calmest of the 3.

Are you able to keep him? Can you share a picture of him?

Oh, I will find another home for the two crowers, but The Abomination is God willing, going to grow into an old man bird here. I live outside city limits, so roos aren't a problem. And both of my immediate neighbors are already aware and cool with it too.

P.S. I will get a recent picture of him tonight. His comb is getting so big.

Okay, I definitely wanna see him.

I have noticed that roos tend to be the cuddliest juveniles and the sweetest peeping little attention cravers. Then they get a full dose of testosterone and no more cuddly or actually if you dont stop cuddling just because they start not wanting to be picked up you can keep a roo somewhat personable. But for a little while during the point of maturity you will have to be persistent. barred rock roos seem to be the worst about wanting to be cuddled to total jerk in a flash. It is a total pain the ones that should be getting culled are the hardest to kill because of their babyishness.

That's a real bummer, but I'm glad you said it. All of my chicks for now are Buff Orpingtons. Let's just hope their reputation holds true. One thing's for sure, the lucky rooster will have 9 girls all to himself (I'm getting 3 pullets each of BA's and SLW's next week).

not having any other roos will help alot Buf orps seem to be the worst at a little after maturity but then chilling out quite a bit but only if they are alone they are too nice to be on top but too persistent to maintain peace They all go through that teenage butt head stage though it seems to me.
