Rooster not himself

He was doing better right before bed. I gave him some scrambled eggs with coconut oil, and some Gatorade. He was eating pretty good and holding his head up like usual. He even tried mating with one of the hens. Hoping to hear him crowing in the am, As he didn’t crow all day today. I’ll update in the am. :fl

Great.

I bet it was the wood's fault.
Silly guy.

Glad to say bill the rooster is doing much better today. He’s holding his head and tail up and he’s back to hanging out with the hens and eating normal. The way he looked yesterday I thought for sure he was done for. He’s a good guy, not aggressive at all and super good to my hens. Still don’t know why he’s eating wood, hopefully he won’t be eating anymore....

That is wonderful news! And can I just say... that is one GORGEOUS rooster. What breed is he?
He’s an Easter egger I believe. The guy that gave him to me had gotten 20 straight run chicks from southern states and like 15 of them turned out to be boys. I picked the most colorful one of the bunch.

Sometimes chicken eat the darnedest things.
I know they like to eat bits of charred wood/charcoal. But that piece looked huge. I've had birds "stay in bed" for a day or two when they would eat the wrong berries, bugs, or other stuff. It has usually been young dumb birds more than older wiser ones.
Thank God he's doing better today.
