Rooster or hen I'm confused

Hi. I have a white d'uccle who is confusing me. I thought and was told that it was a pullette but I swear I heard this chicken start to crow the other morning and the vent area is still smallish. The other gold neck d uccle that was hatched at the same time in December has been laying for 3months or longer.... is this a roo?

What about the saddle feathers? Does the bird have a fringe of pointy saddle feathers hanging off his back just in front of the tail area? That's what you must look at, not the comb. By that age, he'd have them, if it's a cockerel.

No not that I can see.

Hmm, in those photos, I don't see any pointy saddle feathers, either. Could be it's just a later layer than the other one. I have a Belgian D'Anver who does this wail that sounds like she's trying to crow-she does it when she wants out in a bad way. Maybe that's all it is, her being weird.

I think you misunderstood me, BirdGirl. I don't think it's a male. Pretty, yes, but no discernible saddle feathers which should be obvious by this age. So, I'm thinking pullet on this one.
