Rooster or Hen OMG!!

Must be in the water. We got 6 straight runs in March. All were cockerels. And they were all “dicks” to say the least lol

Wow!!! I have a few that are not the nicest to be around. Got pecked a few times just walking up to them in the yard. I let them free range a few hours a day. One even chased after my 75lb bird hunting dog and pecked him. Those two are top of the list for BBQ on the Grill!

I purchased a straight run this spring of Rhode Island Reds.

Where did you buy these and how old were they when you got them?

I meant the sorted straight run and the sorted males, maybe that wasn't the best way of saying it.

My three straight run were all male too. Two out of three had to go. Remaining one is good with the girls. I sometimes have to remind him I am the boss though. So much for docile, sweet Buff Orpington cockerels.

I feel like the straight runs are mostly males anyway. At least that is how it has been in my local farm store. They have female bins, and the straight runs. They don't even have an all male bin. I got chickens from the all girl bins and still ended up with a boy. But only one.

That’s normal. Chick vent sexing is only 85-90% accurate. That means that for every 10 chicks you get, you have a high chance of getting 1 male.

Here we go. I finally got some pics. They all look pretty much the same as far as the feathers. The only difference I see are their combs. But what do I know.
