Rooster Went Nuts...Brutally Attacked Hen (MORE PHOTOS ADDED)

Well, maybe next week you could bring in one of the other girls for a couple hours to visit. Maybe bring a different one each day. This might keep them familiar enough with her that re-intergration might be easier. My pen (an old ferret cage) was too small to accomedate 2 hens, or I would have tried this.

we use a product called "swat" on our horses and sheep when we have an open wound - fly repellent antibiotic ointment. if it's warm, it will melt off and needs to be reapplied a couple times a day.
stuff works well, and is good for a wound the skin doesn't close over - keeps the edges from drying out so they can close over the wound.

Okay, here are some pics of the wound:

Yeah, she's looking pretty rough right now. She's eating a little bit (heated up frozen corn...her favorite treat) and even drinking a bit but she's kinda just standing in a daze right now. I covered the wound up with neosporin (which clearly hurt like hell when I did it but she didn't make any noise really). She doesnt seem to be in shock though as she's warbling a bit and kinda just standing around. It was good to see her finally eat something though.

Yup... that's what ours looked like too.

Poor baby... I know she's got to be hurting. Just keep her calm and quiet. Keep food and water close to her also. That's about all you can do. Just watch her and pray she pulls thru.

ETA: And follow the steps I stated above for treatment.
