As previously stated - it might work, or it might not. The ratio that is so commonly quoted here, does not necessarily adhere to a backyard flock. It’s what the large hatcheries use for optimum fertility. In a backyard flock, a pair, trio or quartet may work out just fine. A cockerel or rooster with a dozen hens may still only mate with one or two, still causing stress and bare backs. You just never know until you try. The main point I’m trying to get a cross is, “get more hens” isn’t always the answer. Sometimes it causes more problems than it solves.
