Rosecomb Thread

I agree, I do it all the time with my Cochins during show season, but with the RC's I had been told that by the people I bought them from and then it happened by accident, and it is very true, I also try to steer clear of it with my Japs, I did it when I got them and it seemed a tad much for them, not sure there though, just my preference.

And if I can I will take pics tomarrow-supposed to snow down here in So. Co.-be busy as ever-and I just wanna' play with chickens on my days off!

I'm just going to wait it out, till my babies molt.

The breeder I got mine from said not to pluck their feathers as they are a very sensitive breed of chicken. I would have felt bad plucking them.

Well I showed 3 of my Rosecombs at the Pennsylvania State Farmshow. I did extremely well with them. My hen placed second my cockerel placed first and my pullet place first. Then I got Best of Breed Rosecomb with my pullet. Then She went up for Champion RCCL and show WON!!! I was so happy because it was her first show. Then she was up on Champion row and they were picking Best Bantam and Reserve Bantam. They Picked a White crested Polish for Best Bantam and they picked my Rosecomb for Reserve Champion Bantam!!! I was sooo excited. I have never won any award of that importance at a chicken show before!

Erin that pullet was from you!!!!

I have a Rosecomb related question.

Someone told me that the pullets earlobes will slowly develop into full circles, but they start out as semi circles, is this true ?

Here are my girls, again, they are out of condition & I got them with their dirty tails, it's winter, so I can't bath them till Spring, so please excuse them for that & they are cell phone pics, so quality is horrid:

My rooster is 3-4 years old and in a molt & he isn't really posing, so overall, crappy pic of him:

When a rosecomb chick hatches, it has no lobes. As if matures, the lobes get larger. You really cannot tell what size and shape the lobes will be until the bird is 6-9 mo. or so. Your birds are not that young so, you got what you got. Your hen doesn't look that bad and your roo may have been a different chicken in his hay day. Rosecombs go downhill quickly so, it's hard to say what his quality may or may not have been.

Matt, CONGRATS!!! That's great news. Please tell me you took some pics
